ARTIST STATEMENT

I paint abstract landscapes inspired by nature and infused with the sounds of the blues and a twist of rock.

I explore the energy, light and sounds of natural landscapes. I’m intrigued by the way they continuously fracture and re-shape the landscape.

My style is loose and organic. I interpret the landscape rather than replicate it by layering colours, shapes and lines to show the interplay among the seen and unseen parts of the view.

Currently I’m painting landscapes from reference photos I took on our trip to Nelson, British Columbia in the summer and from our cottage in Northwest Ontario.  At the beginning of each year I develop concepts for 3-4 series of paintings each with a distinct theme to examine. I then create a number of paintings to develop a visual narrative about each theme. I mainly use acrylic on canvas and watercolour on paper.

I have been painting intermittently for over 35 years and started painting full-time and established my art business, Life-az-iz Studio, a few years ago.
